Curtin University John Curtin Centre Court

The John Curtin Centre Court is the University’s primary civic and ceremonial space. Building on our Place Activation Strategy for Curtin, we transformed the empty lawn into an inviting place embracing the many modes and functionalities of seating.
Curtin Creative Quarter + Cycle Hub

Curtin Creative Quarter is undergoing an exciting new upgrade within the Bentley campus through a series of design interventions and facilities that provide much needed activation and energy to the Southern part of the campus. The large open space shaded with magnificent mature Pine Trees and framed by the Faculties of Engineering Humanities and Arts now includes shaded communal seating areas, a games court with basketball tree, and timber decks for hanging out on beanbags. The space also includes a converted 40ft Shipping Container that serves as an outdoor Art Gallery to showcase student work. A new state of the art Cycle Hub is also provided and designed in collaboration with Coniglio Ainsworth Architects.
Curtin University Courtyard Upgrade

The Main Cafe Courtyard upgrade is the first step in the Curtin University Place Activation Plan. The Place Activation Plan sets out both short and long term strategies to improve the liveliness of the campus as it transitions from a suburban campus into the centre of a new urban city with a working title of ‘Curtin Town’.
Curtin University Innovation Street

Curtin University’s Innovation Street, Medical School Entry & Courtyard (designed by PLACE Laboratory) are the first significant projects to be realised according to the aims and ambitions established by the Greater Curtin Masterplan developed by Curtin in 2014.

Southern Memorial Park

Southern Memorial Park is planned to be a world-leading bush cemetery located in a bushland park setting south of Canberra. The project aims to deliver 50,000 traditional and natural burial plots, gardens for ashes memorialisation, and supporting facilities in four stages over 100 years to meet ongoing changing community needs and environmental conditions.
Belconnen Town Centre Place Design Brief

The Belconnen Land Release – Place Design Brief creates a performance-based guide that ensures new neighbourhoods are developed into places that buzz with community and business life. The project distils local knowledge and community expectations gathered through co-design sessions with government and industry stakeholders, community groups and residents into an engaging and user-friendly document to assist developers, designers and planners.
METRONET Southern Rail Infrastructure

METRONET engaged WSP, together with its sub-consultants Coniglio Ainsworth Architects, PLACE Laboratory & Flint Engineering to be the Engineering and Land Use Planning consultant to develop a Preliminary Place Plans that looked at implementing 2 new stations one at ground-level within the future Town Centre and the other as a new platform for the Australind regional rail service.
METRONET Eastern Rail Infrastructure

The Eastern Line Level Crossing Removal Project is a vital congestion busting METRONET Program relieving the bottlenecks caused by major road and rail intersections. Removing the level crossing will relink suburbs which previously divided communities, reduce travel times, increase everybody’s safety, and improve amenities for residents and commuters.
Higgins Park

PLACE Laboratory has been engaged by the Town of Victoria Park to Undertake the Master Planning and Community Consultation of one of their major community sports and leisure destinations.
James St Esperance

Esperance is a unique coastal town with a strong sense of community and historical ties. The James St Precinct, in particular, is an area of significant potential. PLACE Laboratory and Pracsys for the Shire of Esperance have been engaged to develop a plan to guide this precinct’s development to create a meaningful and thriving place.
Airport Terminal 2 Forecourt

The main intent of the design is to enhance pedestrian safety and showcase the Western Australian landscape through native planting and a ‘dry riverbed’ narrative, which is a design continuation from Terminal 1. The new paving plan addresses issues with pedestrian safety by replacing areas of damaged pavers with exposed aggregate in-situ concrete and large native planting beds.
Stirling City Centre

PLACE Laboratory together with Syrinx PL prepared the Urban Design and Landscape Strategy for the future Stirling City Centre. The strategy is based on biophilic design principles, supporting the Stirling Alliance Performance Framework and guiding all future developments.
Edenvale Heritage Precinct

The Edenvale Heritage Homestead and surrounding Precinct is an award-winning historic area in Pinjarra, Western Australia. Through internal strategic planning the Shire of Murray identified the Precinct would play a critical future role as a cultural precinct for a projected population of 27,000 by 2050.
