METRONET engaged WSP, together with its sub-consultants Coniglio Ainsworth Architects, PLACE Laboratory & Flint Engineering to be the Engineering and Land Use Planning consultant to develop a Preliminary Place Plans that looked at implementing 2 new stations one at ground-level within the future Town Centre and the other as a new platform for the Australind regional rail service.

PLACE Laboratory developed a methodology for the Preliminary Place Plans with METRONET and the project team that served as a foundation for a well-integrated and coordinated delivery of the METRONET objectives into tangible criteria. The Place Plan sets out the place planning, public art strategy and landscape concept for each station and its surrounding. Analysis of the current situation, aboriginal significance, community perception, station precinct users, the planning framework, and the station access strategy, form the base for the Preliminary Place Plan. At the core of the plan sits the site-specific Sense of Place Statement.
