The Shire of Merredin engaged PLACE Lab to design, document and deliver the 3 stage CBD Revitalisation project.
Early collaboration created an opportunity to use the project as not only a revitalisation of their CBD but also as a representation of the Town’s history, culture and aspirations. A celebration of the rich tapestry of the Shire and community.
Key to the success of this project is the rejuvenation of Apex park from a sprawling turf area scattered with play equipment into regional play centre.
The decision was made eary during the design to ensure that traditionally isolated play elements would be united to create a dynamic all ages all abilities play experience.
Drawing on iconic Merredin Peak and Gnamma holes for inspiration, the design fully incorporates a skate park, pump track, learn to skate zone with giant ninja play, tree tower and natural discovery play within a community hub.
