PLACE Laboratory is leading the landscape transformation of the Perth Cultural Centre, in collaboration with COX Architecture and the Noongar community. This $55M revitalisation turns a hard, heat-affected urban space that is well passed its use by date into a lush, green cultural precinct that connects Western Australia’s major institutions. Through extensive consultation with Noongar Elders, the design weaves Indigenous stories into the landscape, celebrating connection to Country.
A network of shaded pathways, biodiverse plantings, and inviting gathering spaces enhances comfort, accessibility, and cultural expression. By integrating climate-responsive solutions—such as tree canopies, green corridors, and water-sensitive design—the precinct now fosters social interaction while mitigating urban heat. More than a redesign, this project is a bold step toward a sustainable and inclusive future, ensuring the Perth Cultural Centre is a place of connection, creativity, and community for generations to come.
