Albany Town Square ready for Anzac Centennial

With just hours to spare, construction of Albany’s revitalised Town Square was completed in time for the Anzac Centennial Commemorations held over the first weekend in November.

The new orientation of the Town Square showcases Albany’s historic town hall by opening a sight line for people as they make their way down York Street  and provides a flexible event space at its feet. The square – once separate from York street shielded by a drastic level change and thick vegetation – now addresses the main street through generous concrete terracing incorporating recessed hardwood timber seating. Stairs lead to the upper grass area connecting to the library by the addition of hardwood terraces complete with large deck area shaded by commercial umbrellas. A great place to read a book or log into the Library’s Wifi.

Construction was completed in time for the recent events commemorating the Centenary of WW1. Head to the ANZAC Albany Facebook page to see the Square in use and more images.
